ABOUT THIS PRINT
Saint George was a young soldier chosen to guard the Roman Emperor Diocletian (reigned 284-305 AD), who only trusted Christians to guard him. The Emperor ordered all soldiers to perform a sacrifice to the pagan gods, but Saint George refused, confessing to be a Christian in front of the Roman court. He was offered money and rewards if he would agree to worship the 12 pagan gods, but he still refused. He survived torture and was finally beheaded.

Saint George is also know as the "Dragon Slayer." The story goes that a town was terrorized by a dragon who demanded the sacrifice of a beautiful maiden to access the town's water. This fell to the king, who offered his young daughter.  Saint George rode into the village on horseback, slayed the dragon, and rescued the princess. The people of the city were so amazed at what they had witnessed that they renounced paganism and converted to Christianity.
